Governor Vacancy

Volunteer Role

Acorn Secondary Alternative Provision is seeking new Governors to participate in the Strategic oversight of the school.

Acorn is a Secondary Alternative Provision (Free School) We work with secondary schools throughout Lincolnshire and into the East Midlands through commissioned places to help young people in Years 7 to 11 who for a variety of reasons may not be succeeding in a conventional classroom environment. We operate with 48 funded places.

The school opened in September 2013 and now provides a unique, high-quality Alternative Education for the young people we serve. We provide a broad and balanced academic and vocational curriculum; we work with children and young people through our therapeutic team to seek to understand why they are struggling to engage within a mainstream setting and give them strategies and support to aid their future success.

At Year 7 and Year 8 we operate a cohort-based approach; students join us across one long term, three times a year and are reintegrated back into their mainstream setting with high levels of support. In this way, we help vulnerable students avoid exclusion, support behaviour change, fulfil their potential and raise their standards of achievement.

Placements are available to assist both Year 9 and Key Stage 4 students on a full time permanent basis until the end of Year 11. We work closely with our mainstream partners to ensure all students are ready for the next stage of their lives be it with a college place or an apprenticeship. We offer full GCSEs in core subjects as well as Vocational options, the majority of which are classed as High Quality from the Department of Education.

We also serve mainstream students through our commissioned Outreach programme.

We seek to expand our Governing Board and wish to attract people who have a keen interest in giving back to their community, assisting a school whose purpose is to shape the future of those who do not thrive within conventional education.
